Right now, someone is telling a story, in a truck cab, across a kitchen table, or in a quiet pause at the end of a long day. Many of those stories will fade with time, and many more will never be told at all. We think they don't matter, or we move too fast to notice them, and then one day they’re gone.
Storyground is about noticing the real stories of ordinary people, the ones around us every day, and turning them into something that lasts.
Through video keepsakes for families and businesses, and a podcast of listener-submitted stories, I'm out to bring a little more storytelling back into the world.

Our lives are full of stories - childhood memories, family traditions, hard lessons, funny moments, people we've loved and experiences we never want to forget. A family tree is a wonderful thing, but it can't tell your stories in your own voice, with your own expressions, and your own laughter. I'll use my Ten Great Questions format to guide you or your loved one through an unscripted, no-pressure conversation that brings those meaningful and memorable stories to the surface. The result is a keepsake video your family can treasure for generations. Every Legacy Story includes an initial phone call, a relaxed on-camera interview, up to 30 of your own photos woven into the finished video, and a USB drive to keep.

Every business has a story: why you started, the problem you set out to solve, the things you believe that make you different. You know your business inside and out, but knowing your story and telling it well are two different things. I’ll sit down with you, ask the questions, and help you find it. Then I’ll shape it into a founder story video you can use on your website, your social media, and wherever you tell people about what you do. Every Founder Story includes an initial phone call, a guided on-camera interview, video of your business and the work you do, editing, one round of revisions, and a finished video made for sharing.

The Storyground Podcast is my belief in action - that real life stories are important and worth saving. Maybe it's the story you tell at every gathering, something your dad said that stuck with you, or a memory about the time everything went sideways. It doesn't have to be dramatic, it just has to be real. If you have a story to share, please write it in an email and send it to me so I can read it on the podcast. About Me
I'm Laura Hayes. Storyteller, rural dweller, writer, singer/song-writer, and the person at the kitchen table asking too many questions, then quietly taking it all in.
I'm drawn to stories in all their forms, and I've been collecting them my whole life. As a journalist I had a microphone and a deadline. Now, I have something I didn't recognize back then - the deep and unshakeable belief that the stories of ordinary lives are the most important ones we can tell. Time and time again I've seen the joy a simply told, true story brings to the people listening. In this time of artificial things, we need what's real more than ever.
I believe you have stories worth telling. About your life, your childhood, your family, your business, or the things you've built. You may not know which moments matter, how they fit together, or how to put them into words. That's where I come in.
I listen for the story underneath the story. I ask questions. I notice the details. I help you shape what you've lived into a story that's meaningful, memorable and worth sharing.
I've been telling other people's stories for decades. I studied Broadcast Journalism in college and then I worked in television news. After moving back to rural Saskatchewan to raise a family, I started a video production business so I could tell the stories of people in these rural areas. My work has taken me from storefronts to bull pens and boardrooms. I understand rural lifestyles and businesses because that's who I am too.
